For Providers
How to Become a Service Provider in South Africa (and Actually Get Bookings) in 2026
You're skilled. You're reliable. But your phone isn't ringing. Here's the blueprint to fix that — without paying for ads or waiting on word of mouth.
The two reasons skilled tradespeople struggle to fill their week
Reason one: clients can't find you. You're on Facebook Marketplace, maybe Gumtree, maybe a WhatsApp group. Each platform is a graveyard of unanswered messages, lowballers, and time-wasters.
Reason two: the clients who *do* find you don't trust you yet. Without verified reviews, a track record, or proof of identity, every job is starting from zero. You spend more time convincing people you're not a chancer than actually doing the work.
HomeSorted fixes both — but only for providers who put the work in upfront.
Step 1 — the verification gate (one weekend of effort)
To appear on the public directory and start receiving quote requests, every provider must clear four checks. We don't budge on this, because every client who sees your profile is told these checks were done.
1. Certified ID copy. A clear scan or photo. Police-station or commissioner-of-oaths stamp recommended.
2. Bank confirmation letter. From your bank, in your name. This is how we pay you out via Stitch — every Friday, automated EFT.
3. Police clearance certificate. SAPS issues these; budget two to four weeks. If you don't have one yet, start the application before anything else. We let you upload provisional proof of application while you wait.
4. Live in-app selfie. Taken through HomeSorted's camera, refreshed every 24 hours when you're active. This is the difference between us and platforms where stolen identities operate freely.
You upload, our admin reviews within 48 hours, and you go live. Most providers get verified in under three days.
Step 2 — write a profile that converts
Once approved, your public profile shows on /browse and at a shareable link (homesorted.co.za/p/your-id). What clients actually read in their two-second scan:
- Your service categories. Pick three at most. A "plumber, electrician, gardener, painter, mover" profile reads as untrustworthy. Specialists earn more.
- Your coverage area. Be honest. Promising "all of Joburg" when you live in Soweto means you bid on jobs in Sandton you can't profitably reach.
- Your bio. Three sentences. What you do, who you've done it for, why clients rebook you. Skip the "I am a hard worker, please call me" — every provider says that.
Anti-bypass rule: our system strips phone numbers, emails, and social handles from public bios. This isn't optional. Off-platform contact removes the protections (escrow, ratings, dispute resolution) that *both* of you rely on.
Step 3 — how the bidding model works
A client posts a job. You see it in your dashboard within seconds (push notification optional). You have a window — usually 30 to 90 minutes — to submit your quote. Your quote is private to the client. You can include:
- Total price (inclusive of VAT and your travel)
- Availability ("today after 3pm" beats "this week")
- A short note ("happy to bring the geyser element, R420 extra")
Clients see all bids side by side. They don't always pick the lowest — they pick the best signal-to-price ratio. Your trust band, rating, and response time matter more than being R200 cheaper.
Step 4 — the trust score that compounds
Every completed job moves your trust band: Building reputation → Trusted → Top Pro. Top Pros get featured placement on /browse, priority match in the smart-match algorithm, and clients rebooking them directly without re-bidding.
Things that drop your trust band:
- Cancelling after accepting a bid
- No-showing a job
- Sub-3-star reviews on multiple jobs
- Disputes ruled against you in our 24-hour review window
The math is simple: be reliable for ten jobs and you've earned a label that ten thousand competing providers can't fake.
Step 5 — getting paid
When a client approves your work, you have a 24-hour review window for them to flag issues. After that, payment auto-releases to your bank account via Stitch. Most providers see funds Tuesday-Friday for jobs completed earlier the same week.
Cash jobs work differently. If a client pays you cash on-site, our 15% fee accrues to your "fees owed" balance. You settle it via the dashboard within 14 days. Letting fees owed climb above R400 triggers soft-suspension — you stop receiving new job requests until it's cleared. Stay on top of it.
What good providers earn
This depends on your category, hours, and quality, but our top-band providers in plumbing, electrical and handyman work routinely run R28k-R55k/month in *take-home* on the platform. Cleaners and gardeners on recurring contracts hit R12k-R22k/month. The pattern is identical across every category: trust band ↑, weekly bookings ↑, earnings ↑.
What to do this week
Apply, upload your four documents, and write your three-sentence bio. By next Friday you can be live, bidding, and earning. The market for skilled work in SA is enormous — it's the *finding-you* problem we've already solved.
